Tech Talk – Equifax Breach, NASA 3D Metal Printing, and Jumping Down the 5G Rabbit Hole

Published on: October 26th, 2017

AT Computer Troubleshooters we care deeply about your data security, which is why we are sharing a guide for the steps you can take to protect your credit and identity following the most recent Equifax data breach.  After that, we head over to NASA to see what they’re doing with 3D printing (hint: it has nothing to do with a T. Rex), and our last stop is an explanation of what “5G” means.  Although parts of the explanation made my head spin, the article really is enlightening and is important to read as it affects the future of DirecTV service, home internet, wireless phone, and home phone services.

Equifax Breach

“IRS Commissioner John Koskinen committed the shocking crime of making sense on Tuesday, when he said something security experts have been saying for years: Hackers probably already had your private information, even before the Equifax breach.”  Source: Ian Sherr, c-net.com, October 17, 2017

Equifax lost control of their customers’ data including Social Security Numbers, home addresses, driver license numbers, dates of birth and credit card numbers.  And while at the moment Equifax isn’t explicitly notifying customers that they are victims, if you are concerned that you are vulnerable to identity theft due to the breach, then this guide is for you.

3D Bi-Metal Printing at NASA

NASA is learning to use 3D printing in order to produce rocket parts.  Having already experimented with single-metal components, researchers are now testing a process for printing in 2 different alloys (called “brazing”) and recently produced a working bi-metallic rocket igniter.

What Is 5G?

Sascha Segan of PC Magazine invites us to “head down the rabbit hole that is 5G” as she tries to explain “what the heck is going on.”   Hint: “The G in 5G means it’s a generation of wireless technology.”
